Traditionally at the end of March we are busy with our friends from the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival presenting their wonderful festival the last weekend of the month of March. The 27th was also World Theater Day which reminded us of the charming documentary MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS which we were lucky enough to see at the 2010 Mill Valley Film Festival prior to its being acquired for the OWN network. MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS is a documentary about the Freddy Awards, similar to Broadway's Tony Awards, that gives high school musical theater geeks one night of the year to shine in a Pennsylvania town that devotes all its resources to high school sports. Variety said "An argument for arts in schools, "Most Valuable Players" ventures into football-crazy Lehigh Valley, Pa., to track three high school musicals and their route to the TV-broadcast Freddy Awards (named for a ghost that haunts the State Theater at Easton)." MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS is available to rent for a modest fee from Apple and Amazon. Special bonus for Les Miz fans - there are two dueling productions of Les Miz featured. And look for the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival's Virtual 2021 Festival in June of this year.
