Our next Rialto Recommends choice definitely fits into the category of trashy fun B movie. Starring Cher and Christina Aguilera in her first film role 2010's BURLESQUE turns 10 this week and its time we celebrate this campy achievement. Ali (Christina Aguilera), a small-town gal with a great voice, leaves a troubled life behind and follows her dreams to Los Angeles. She lands a job as a cocktail waitress at the Burlesque Lounge, a once-majestic theater that houses an inspired musical revue led by Tess (Cher), the proprietor. Ali vows to perform there and, with the help of a savvy stage manager and a gender-bending host, she makes the leap from bar to stage, helping restore the club's former glory. Screen International said "Campy, sexy and shameless in all the ways one would hope, BURLESQUE demands viewers acquiesce to its frothy, strutting tone, and those who do are in for a hoot." While the Hollywood Reporter said "A refreshing throwback to movie musicals that celebrates its stars while indulging in sexy fun." But our favorite quote comes from BET "A glitzy mess and ensures the audience will have a gay old time with every bead, feather, wig and boa. Camp on steroids - I could watch Cher quiver her lips for two hours and be in cinematic heaven." And if those quotes don't do it for you, here's what the Washington Post said "This corny guilty pleasure of a movie is a fitting two-hander for these seasoned pros." BURLESQUE is streaming on Hoopla and Sling or available to rent for a modest fee from Amazon, Vudu, Apple, Redbox, GooglePlay, YouTube and others. As the poster tagline said "It takes a legend to make a star."
