Our next Rialto Recommends is a movie that is close to our owner's heart. BIG EDEN is a beautiful coming out story set in a fictional Montana town and film around Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. Winner of multiple LGBT film festival awards the film went on to a regular theatrical run in the summer of 2001. Henry Hart is a young gay artist living in New York City. When his grandfather has a stroke, Henry puts his career on hold and returns home to the small town of Big Eden, Montana, to care for him. While there, Henry hopes to strike up a romance with Dean Stewart, his high-school best friend for whom he still has feelings. But he's surprised when he finds that Pike, a quiet Native American who owns the local general store, may have a crush on him. Written and directed by Thomas Bezucha BIG EDEN was his first feature. The Los Angeles Times raved "An accomplished heart-tugger, a serious romantic comedy that tackles two dilemmas with honesty and compassion." The New York Post said "Genuinely funny and moving, without a single cloying moment." And the Boston Globe said "In its gentle, heartwarming, decidedly unrealistic way, it's a refreshing alternative to hipper-than-thou moviemaking."
