Richard Linklater is one of those directors who has the ability to move from genre to genre, big studio movies like School of Rock to small character gems like Before Sunrise and Before Sunset as well as his amazing multi-year project Boyhood. Our next Rialto Recommends is a lesser known film of Linklater's from 2009 ME AND ORSON WELLES. Based on Robert Kaplow's novel ME AND ORSON WELLES stars Zac Efron, Claire Danes, and Christian McKay. After a chance encounter, theater-loving teen Richard Samuels (Zac Efron) gets the opportunity of a lifetime when famed director Orson Welles (Christian McKay) gives him a small role in his 1937 production of "Julius Caesar." Unexpectedly thrust into the heady world of the stage, Richard finds himself surrounded by ambition, clashing egos and sheer brilliance. The Seattle Times said "Linklater keeps everything bouncing along, in sepia light and roar-of-the-greasepaint dust, giving us a little lesson in theater history along with an appealing coming-of-age tale." While Rolling Stone said "What do you say about a movie that proves Zac Efron can act, introduces a master thespian in Christian McKay and launches a charm assault that is damn near irresistible?" ME AND ORSON WELLES is streaming on Hoopla or available to rent for a modest fee from Apple, Amazon, GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu and others HERE.
