While the baseball season has ended its never too late to enjoy a baseball movie. Our next Rialto Recommends is Bennett Miller's 2011 film MONEYBALL starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill with a script by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin based upon Michael Lewis' book. Billy Beane (Brad Pitt), general manager of the Oakland A's, one day has an epiphany: Baseball's conventional wisdom is all wrong. Faced with a tight budget, Beane must reinvent his team by outsmarting the richer ball clubs. Joining forces with Ivy League graduate Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), Beane prepares to challenge old-school traditions. He recruits bargain-bin players whom the scouts have labeled as flawed, but have game-winning potential. Director Bennett Miller, along with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, take a niche subject and turn it into a sharp, funny, and touching portrait worthy of baseball lore. The Washington Post said "Like a cold beer under a bluebird sky; like a flawless line drive on a warm summer's day; like a long, languorous seventh-inning stretch - MONEYBALL satisfies." While Time Magazine said "A solid, bustling social comedy at the 130-IQ level, MONEYBALL boasts the zinging, stinging repartee of grown men working at a kids' game and tired of being handed the prevailing line of bull." MONEYBALL is streaming on Netflix or available to rent for a modest fee from Amazon, Vudu, Apple, GooglePlay, YouTube and others. Check out MONEYBALL a baseball movie for people who like baseball and those who don't care for baseball but like smart entertainment.
