The Trial of the Chicago 7

We have been fans of Aaron Sorkin's work for a long time now and earlier this year we recommended his directorial debut Molly's Game. Our next Rialto Recommends is his new feature THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 which he again writes and directs. In 1969, seven people were charged by the federal government with conspiracy and more, arising from the protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. An actors' showcase enlivened by its topical fact-based story, THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 plays squarely -- and compellingly -- to Aaron Sorkin's strengths. The Hollywood Reporter said "Sorkin has made a movie that's gripping, illuminating and trenchant, as erudite as his best work and always grounded first and foremost in story and character." While Variety said "Aaron Sorkin's "The Trial of the Chicago 7" is the rare drama about the 1960s that's powerful and authentic and moving enough to feel as if it were taking place today." Originally made for theatrical release by Paramount Pictures the film was sold last Spring to Netflix where it is streaming exclusively. This is a film we wish we had the chance to present on screen.
